It was fitting in a race sponsored by Time that Mongys Wild posted a sensationally fast time on his way to a record breaking victory in the TV Trophy at Towcester on Sunday afternoon.
Not only did the brilliant son of Roxholme Olaf hand his handler Mark Wallis a record fifth win in the famous, long-established Category 1, but he also smashed the track record in the process, taking a half second off the previous best held by his kennel companion Ballymac Taylor.
It was the latter that actually went to traps the 10-11 favourite to land the £15,000 prize but she could never get a blow in with two of the outsiders, litter comrades Alright Gordy and Alright Patricia offering the only real opposition to Mongys Wild.
Alright Patricia went up fastest only to bump with Mongys Wild into the turn allowing Alright Gordy to go to the front. He would open up to lead by almost four lengths down the back straight on the opening lap but Mongys Wild was soon on his heels.
Going to the front before the fifth turn, Mongys Wild moved clear in the manner of a greyhound that could be very special over extreme distances going forward. He would ultimately go on to claim a wonderful six and a half length victory. Alright Patricia ran on strongly to take second with her brother Alright Gordy less than a length away in third.
For her winning owners, it was the latest of a number of Category 1 victories in the past year and it’s evident to most that Mongys Wild will provide them with more success at the highest level in the future. In what was just his eighth start since arriving to the UK with a big reputation, he was claiming a seventh win on this side of the Irish Sea.
