Bockos Diamond, the brilliant Irish Derby champion, made his first public appearance since his unforgettable triumph at Shelbourne Park, trialing at Towcester on Sunday afternoon. Entered for the TIME Greyhound Nutrition Juvenile Championship, the son of Dorotas Wildcat glided around the track, delivering an impressive 28.85 run.
He recorded the fastest sectional of the session with a scorching 3.98 and the Graham Holland-trained superstar looked perfectly at home—going up straight before shifting slightly toward the rail at the turn. While he ran largely down the middle, it was notable that he sported the striped jacket, the same colors he wore when securing Irish Derby glory.
Despite his eye-catching performance, kennelmate Bombay Pat went even quicker, recording a superb 28.81 off a 4.16 sectional. Meanwhile, Irish Derby runner-up Cheap Sandwiches also impressed in his first public outing of the year, stopping the clock at 28.91 with a 4.00 sectional.
As one of the strongest Derby favorites in years, Bockos Diamond’s debut at the Towcester circuit was highly encouraging. If he sharpens up further with experience on the Northamptonshire track, his odds will only continue to shorten.
