Which One Of These Amazing Trainers Will Come Out On Top?

The Greyhound Trainers Championship celebrates its 40th birthday this year and it promises to be some party at Towcester Racecourse. It was inaugurated in 1977 and witnesses the best six trainers from the previous year do battle over eight races, on one very special night.

On 28th March 2017, patrons will witness Mark Wallis, Paul Young, Seamus Cahill, Jimmy Wright, Kevin Hutton and Charlie Lister OBE battle it out to see who will be crowned the champion. With total prize-money exceeding £30,000 it promises to be some spectacle and you will see these trainers unleash their kennel stars.

Kevin Hutton has reigned supreme for the last two years, can Kevin make is a very special hat-trick and equal the feat pulled off by Brian Clemenson in 2002, 2003 and 2004

The Trainers Championship Meeting

The Trainers Championship meeting is live on Sky Sports on Tuesday 28th March, featuring the top 6 trainers from 2016:

  • Seamus Cahill (Hove)
  • Kevin Hutton (Towcester)
  • Charlie Lister OBE (Un/attached)
  • Mark Wallis (Towcester)
  • Jimmy Wright (Un/Attached)
  • Paul Young (Romford)

These 6 trainers will compete in 8 races over sprint, standard and stayers distances, scoring points according to where their greyhounds finish.

Each race carries £1,000 prize money to the owners. The winning trainer receives £7,500 and trophy with the other trainers receiving £1,500 each. 48 of the country’s leading greyhounds will battle it out including the first and second favourites for the 2017 Greyhound Derby, namely Droopys Buick and Bubbly Bluebird.
